Nintendo’s Doug Bowser Defends The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Price

One of the biggest Nintendo-related stories of the last couple of months has nothing to do with the features of the games coming to the Nintendo Switch. Instead, it includes the price of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

When first-party games on the Switch averaged $60, Nintendo changed course when it was revealed that Tears of the Kingdom would cost $70. A $10 increase on a six-year-old console game really didn’t sit well with consumers. However, in a recent interview Associated PressNintendo of America president Doug Bowser defended the decision.

“We’ll see what the game has to offer,” he said. “I think fans will find this an incredibly rich, deeply immersive experience.

“The price point reflects the experience that fans can expect when playing this game. This is not a price point that we necessarily have for all of our titles. It’s actually a fairly common pricing pattern, either here or in Europe or elsewhere in the world, where pricing can vary depending on the game itself.

Bowser also stated that the company has sales targets for the latest Legend of Zelda installment, but wasn’t ready to reveal that information publicly.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the King will be released on the 12th. May for Nintendo Switch. The game is a direct sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild, which was released at the launch of the Switch console.
