Firaxis Games is currently developing a new Civilization game. The new game is the next main game in the 30-year series.
The announcement of the new game comes alongside news that Firaxis Games Chief Operating Officer (COO) Heather Hazen is moving to Studio Head. Hazen joined Firaxis as COO in 2020 after serving as executive producer at Epic Games. His promotion comes as longtime Firaxis studio head Steve Martin steps down after more than 25 years on the job.
In a release from 2K and Firaxis, Hazen says he’s grateful for the opportunity and is excited to bring the Civilization franchise into the future with the next installment.
“I am excited about this opportunity to continue the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise,” said Hazen. “I am fortunate to work with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world.”
What next for civilization?
Ed Beach, who has been with Firaxis for over 15 years, will continue as creative director of the new Civilization game.
To date, more than 65 million copies of the Civilization series have been sold. Civilization VI, the last main game, was released in October 2016. Since then, it has been the best-selling game in the series, according to 2K.
The game was released recently the latest Leader Pass package called “Rulers of the Sahara”. The new pack features Ramses II, Cleopatra (Ptolemy) and Sundiata Keita.
According to the release, no details were given.
