Tez2, a reputable Rockstar insider has suggested GTA forums that GTA 6 is likely to be released this year with a tentative release date of 2024.
According to my own reports dating back to June 2021, this appears to be the case. My sources have said that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been aiming for a 2024 release for some time now, but speculation and previous launch/release schedules for the likes of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 suggest that the game will be pushed back to 2025.
If I were to guess – I think the game will be released in the holiday of 2025 instead of spring.
The timing of the announcement is unclear, but typically Rockstar Games likes to announce big reveals on its own. So to set expectations, I wouldn’t necessarily expect the game to be released at E3. Instead, I expect some kind of reveal trailer in the last quarter of 2023 to coincide with its previous reveals.
According to my own sources, one of the main reasons for such a long-lasting “delay” is that GTA 6 will only be released on current generation consoles. Since the tentative date of 2024 was already planned for 2021, it was a way to ensure that GTA 6 has a sufficient console market for release.
In late 2022, Rockstar Games suffered a security breach that resulted in more than 70 GTA 6 gameplay videos appearing online. In its subsequent earnings call, Take-Two Interactive spoke to investors and stated that the leak was unfortunate, but they believe it had no impact on development.
“There is no evidence that any physical assets have been taken, which is good, and the leak certainly won’t affect development or anything else, but it’s terribly disappointing and makes us be even more vigilant about cybersecurity,” it said.
As for GTA 6, for now we’ll have to sit tight and see what’s released in the *hopefully* near future.
When do you think GTA 6 will be announced?
