Firaxis has officially announced that the next mainline game it Sid MeierThe Civilization series is under development.
Ed Beach, Franchise Planner Civilization VIwill continue in his role as creative director on the new game.
The next entry in the turn-based strategy series was confirmed alongside Announcement of a big change in the 2K Games studiowhich shows the leader of XCOM Jake Solomon and studio head Steve Martin left the company.

Firaxis’ chief operating officer Heather Hazen will replace Martin.
“I am excited about this opportunity to continue the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise,” said Hazen.
“I am fortunate to work with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world.”
The Civilization franchise has sold more than 65 million copies since its release in 1991, according to 2K. Civilization VI was released in 2016 and is the best-selling series to date.
Firaxis also said it plans to continue supporting the newly released Marvel’s Midnight Suns with post-launch content and “exploring new creative projects” for his teams as well.
