On March 13th, a wealthy Chinese collector made a historic purchase on the CSGO skin market, snapping up a super rare AK-47 skin for a whopping $160,000. It may seem like a lot, but it just is One the most valuable skin sale in the history of the game, and there are even more expensive skins on the market right now.
It’s still a huge deal, though, and sales like this are relatively few and far between, reserved almost exclusively for the world’s wealthiest collectors. The value of this CSGO AK-47 skin is a strong contender for the top spot, and this might not be the last time it sees the light of day.
One of the most valuable skin sales ever
This CSGO AK-47 skin named “Wild Lotus” was added to the game in 2019 and was in “Factory New” condition at the time of sale. CSGO skins have different health ratings, and the more pristine the skin, the more valuable it is.
It is estimated that less than 3,000 of these skins are currently in circulation.
Oddly enough, the base skin didn’t make this a great deal, as Wild Lotus AK-47s usually go for around $10,000. It’s still a valuable skin, but how is it worth $160,000?
Before the skin was listed (and later sold), the previous owner slapped on four Reason Holo stickers acquired from the 2014 Katowice CSGO Major. This is one of the most legendary esports tournaments in the CSGO scene, and each sticker is worth around $40,000.
Indeed.
With the value of the base skin, added decals, and the fact that the entire set is extremely rare and looks great, a wealthy Chinese buyer snapped it up for $160,000 in public commerce.
However, this is not the end of this skin line. Usually collectors lend their hides for well-known professional players as they take the stage in the biggest esports tournaments in the CSGO ecosystem. This exposes the skin and its value may even increase.
It’s a feature powered by Valve’s secure marketplace system that allows collectors to effectively lend these skins to whoever they want, safe in the knowledge that they’ll get them back for themselves after the tournament is over.
